Hempfield grad Ryan Moffatt played on college basketball's biggest stage with Colgate in the NCAA's Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament.
Moffatt, a junior, contributed 3 points with a three-pointer among four shots from the field and added 3 rebounds and 2 assists against Wisconsin in the first round of March Madness. The Raiders held the third-seeded Badgers to a 28-28 tie at halftime in the Midwest Region matchup in Milwaukee, but ended up being eliminated 67-60.
Moffatt started 34 of the team's 35 games this season and earned the starting nod in 50 of the last 51 games over the last two seasons, helping the Raiders to back-to-back Patriot League championships.
He finished the 2021-22 season ranked second in the Patriot League in 3-point field goal percentage (45.2) and eighth in field goal percentage (52.0). This season he averaged 9.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He netted six 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 24 points in Colgate's win over Bucknell on Feb. 22.
At Hempfield, Moffatt was a member of a team that averaged 20 wins during his three seasons on the roster and advanced into the District 3 and state playoffs all three seasons. In 2017, his junior year, the Black Knights reached the state quarterfinals.
