Hempfield football players, disappointed with a first-round loss in the District 3 playoffs last year, are entering the season with a main goal just to win Week 1.

Jordan Burkhart, senior, defensive end, tight end
Nate Swanger, senior, defensive end, offensive tackle
Derek Katch, senior, quarterback, safety
Beating Dallastown in the first game after losing that game last year will mean a better start that the team can build on, says Katch.
"I think another big goal would probably be beating Cedar Crest this year, especially after two bad losses to them (in Week 9 and district playoffs)," says Buckwalter, who returns as an all-Section 1 defensive end in his junior season.
The team continues to see rival Manheim Township as their biggest section competition. "I like our odds this year more than ever," says Buckwalter.
The players also enjoy competing against new teams in Berks County -- Governor Mifflin this year -- and seeing new opponents in the district playoffs.
As for activities outside of football, for most lifting is the thing.
