J. Freeland Chryst Award
Heide Moebius is not afraid of a challenge. She certainly doesn’t let age stand in the way of achieving goals. Having started competitive running at the age of 55, she has piled up many achievements. To list them all would take up several pages of this program. Here, however, are the highlights, according to her husband and biggest fan, Richard:
- Over 750 races run, from a mile to a marathon, worldwide.
- Finished first in her age group in nearly 90 percent of the races she has run.
- Run over 100 half-marathons (her specialty) and 10 full marathons, including Boston in 2002.
- Won 3 Gold medals for the USA at the 2019 Masters World Championship in Poland (6k, 10k, half-marathon).
- Ran “Authentic” Greek Marathon into Athens one day after her 80th birthday.
- Many Gold and Silver medals in U.S. Senior Games. Most recent, Golds in 2019 in Albuquerque: 800, 1,500, 5k, 10k.
- 2014 USA Track and Field Mid-States Master Female Athlete of Year.
- 2019 U.S. Senior Association January Athlete of the Month.
- 2018 Lancaster Senior Games Honorary Chair.
- Also accomplished tennis player, downhill skier and horseback rider.
