State doubles champion Cooper Lehman graduated from Hempfield, but the Black Knights have plenty of firepower returning.

Will Keppel, who played linebacker on the football team, says as a captain he's ready to lead Hempfield to more titles, with his eye on the league and district championships.

"We want to build a culture and strong bonds among the team," said Keppel. The Black Knights are expected to be contenders.

Keppel says his mom helped get him started in tennis. "She's encouraged me. Tennis can be a mental game and I try and keep a level head and stay calm."

Keppel plays singles and doubles. "I like to serve and volley, " said Keppel.

He compared his two sports -- football and tennis -- saying," Tennis is an individual sport, when you are playing singles. I think there is that mental aspect. I try and stay consistent and when you miss a few shots, just keep at it," Keppel said.

Keppel is looking at attending either Penn State or North Carolina State for college. Off the court, he likes statistics and would like to work for a sports team one day.  For now, he's hoping to help Hempfield put up winning numbers on the court.
