After a season with a roster of 80% freshmen and sophomores that didn't win a league game, Solanco field hockey has plenty of experience and high hopes entering this season.

Corrine Foulk, senior, center defender

Kaitlyn Fulton, senior, forward

The team did lose its senior goalie, but has a junior this year, Kendall Galbreath, they expect to be an equal replacement.

King says last year's team wasn't always playing together as a team, but after more time playing together she expects this year's squad to benefit from better team bonding.

"We're definitely one big family on and off the field," says Foulk.

Tenth-year coach Whitney McGinn says a .500 record with more section wins is a reasonable goal, but making the District 3 playoffs for the first time since 2008, would be quite special.

King is anticipating benefits from playing outfield and second base on Solanco's softball team that finished second in the district before losing in the first round of States.

The team also expects benefits from assisting with the school's youth camps, where Fulton is one of the best referees.

A positive showing at an early-season tournament at Southwestern High School could set the tone for the season. The team also looks forward to its friendly rivalry with neighboring Octorara, where they play Aug. 29 and then at home Sept. 30.
