Gordie Kraft on State and League Championships

Remembrance
Headshot of Gordie Kraft.

Gordie Kraft won the J. Freeland Chryst Award in 2007 and the George W. Kirchner Award in 1999. We asked him for a favorite sports memory.

I have many "favorite" sports memories from high school and college, not to mention from my coaching career.  They are all very special and equal to me.

However, if I really had to narrow it down, I would say winning the gold medal in the PIAA Championship meet in the 200 freestyle relay with Andy Miller, Jim Patterson and Pete Burkholder in 1958 and winning the 1957 Central Penn Football League Championship by beating undefeated Williamsport 20-19 on Thanksgiving day before a large crowd at McCaskey Stadium.
