
Jeff Glass, a 1985 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, was a multisport standout, including being a national-champion javelin thrower for the Red Tornado.
He earned All-Lancaster-Lebanon League mention in soccer, football and track and field.
In 1985, he won the L-L League, PIAA District 3, PIAA Class AAA and national (Golden West Invitational) titles in javelin. He still holds the McCaskey school record (221’ 0”) in the javelin. He ranked among the top three javelin throwers in the nation during his junior and senior years (USA Today Honor Roll). He was a multiple league and district champion in the discus as well and placed third in the state (1985-AAA) in the discus (158’ 11”).
He was a captain for both the soccer and track and field teams and was the sports editor of the “Vidette” school newspaper.
He earned a full athletic scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. At UT, Glass was consistently ranked among the top throwers in the country. He set the school record in the javelin with a throw of 242’ 8” at the Penn Relays. He was a member of university's Southeastern Conference championship track team and had multiple Top-3 finishes in the SEC and NCAA qualifiers. He was a team captain and received All-Academic SEC honors. He was also given the Most Dedicated Athlete Award.
Glass pulled a unique same-day double as he was on two McCaskey winning teams on the same day (soccer and football). He kicked a 42-yard field goal in the football win under the lights at Cedar Crest.
Glass has spent decades volunteering as a coach for youth and scholastic sports teams (soccer and track and field). He has been a volunteer on various nonprofit boards, including YMCA of the Roses and Prima Theater. He is currently a volunteer coach for the McCaskey track team.
