Barbara Barr played basketball, tennis and softball at McCaskey High School, where she was the first female basketball player to score 1,000 points, reaching 1,105.

Her teams won two District 3 championships and lost in the state championship game in 1979. After that season, Barr was named an all-star selection in the Lancaster-Lebanon League, District 3 and was named first team All-State. The Intelligencer Journal named her Female Athlete of the Year for 1979.

Barr played college basketball at Boston University. A three-year starter, she was a team captain her senior year. She also played professional basketball overseas in the English Division One League.

She was inducted into the McCaskey Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. The school also retired her jersey number. She was inducted into the Susquehanna Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.

She has covered sports for WGAL for many years in addition to her news duties. Before that, she was a TV sports reporter and producer in Maine and Boston. She was the first female play-by-play announcer for football and basketball at the University of Maine.
